I'll make this brief: Managed a digital sales team for a year or so Got really close to the team, trained them, grew the team into #1 in group, #2 for our manufacturer in region (out of 400+ dealers) Let go by my General Manager (runs the dealership) during the start of COVID, over the objections of our group/corporate, because my position cost

Font - Fast forward a bit... My old team keeps in touch, asks for assistance every now and then, and l'm always happy to help · Igenuinely like these people because I care about their professional development • Nobody has been put in place to replace my old position, though the team's doing really well (I hired great people and put a lot of effort into training myself out of a job) • I have a higher title, more responsibility, and run the entire sales side of a different dealership now I get a c

Font - The delicious part? Tomorrow, the GM who let me go is going to receive "effective immediately" resignations from HIS ENTIRE DIGITAL SALES DEPARTMENT. This department was the #1 in a group of 15 dealerships. This department accounted for 60-70% of the store's sales volume in a given month. Without these trained and capable staff, they're going right back to where they started as far as closing percentage. Based on their current numbers, the GM who fired me is looking at losing 30-40% of th

I didn't do this for the revenge, I did it because I care about my old team and their development. They're amazing at what they do and deserve to be paid highly for it in a lower stress environment than where they were. I got the best revenge I can imagine... and all I had to do was be a decent person and keep cheerleading the t

Font - Doctor_Hyde OP • 9h They did not work UNDER me. It's a weird thing but it's a pet-peeve of mine. They worked WITH me. Their work made me look good, their performance got themselves and me paid. It's maybe unique to the car business but managers don't make big money unless salespeople/BDC agents/parts counterpersons/service writers/technicians make big money. It's ALL pay-for-play.

Font - I know we, as an industry, don't have the best reputation with the general public but I really do love the connected nature of my business. I don't win unless my staff does. This means I MUST be cognizant of their limits, support their success, lead by example, and generally put my heart and soul into ensuring they make the most money possible. Otherwise, I don't get paid. I've seen "managers' dealerships" and they just don't work- turnover is too high and that's in an industry where turn

Font - Throw_a_Viral_email · 9h This is the sign of true leadership! People want to work for you! And guess what, that is a type of motivation that you cant buy with higher commissions or other privileges BUT it does lead to higher incomes anyway. Can I work for you? You sound inspiring and can teach me a lot. (and I have turned down working for car dealers many many many times.) Keep us informed about the fall out, it will be significant, swift and brutal.
